#15 It's not just what's on your plate

It’s What You’re Eating AND What’s Eating You.

It’s cheesy, I know. But, well, togetherness is worth the artistic risk.

In this week’s newsletter we look up from our plates of porcelain and iron, of diet and exercise, and consider something a bit closer to the heart. Too many people have for far too long dismissed our thoughts, feelings and social connections as just the background to the more important foreground of nutrients, hormones and drugs. Sure, medics are taught about the BioPsychoSocial model of disease, but how often have you seen that in real life?

Far from soppy irrelevance, our social selves and their stresses and strains have real, measurable, and rational effects on our bodies. And, you guessed it, metabolic regulation is one of the hardest hit systems.
